Kenneth Powell (tennis)

Kenneth Powell ( born April 8, 1885 in London, † February 18, 1915 at Ypres, Belgium) was a British hurdler and tennis player.

Life

Powell came in 1885 in London's Hampstead to the world. In 1905 he began studying at Cambridge University and became a member of the local sports team.

In 1904 he took part in tennis tournaments, from 1905 to the Wimbledon Championships. At the Olympic Games in London in 1908 he took part in the 110- meter hurdles, however, different in the first run out. In tennis competition, he lost the item in the first round against Otto Froitzheim, in a double he achieved with his partner Walter Crawley the quarterfinals.

At the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912 he finished fifth in the 110- meter hurdles. In tennis competition he entered there no longer.

The Wimbledon Championships 1913 Powell succeeded by reaching the quarter-finals his best result. After the outbreak of World War I in August 1914, he was drafted and served in an artillery regiment. He was only about seven months later in February 1915 at Ypres. His grave is in a cemetery near Heuvelland.
