Jamie Baker (ice hockey)

James Patrick " Jamie " Baker ( born August 31, 1966 in Nepean, Ontario ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey center who played during his career for the Quebec Nordiques, Ottawa Senators, San Jose Sharks and Toronto Maple Leafs of the National Hockey League. On the side of Dan Rusanowsky he commented since 2005 as an expert for the radio station KFOX the games of the San Jose Sharks.

Career

After two years with his hometown Nepean Raiders team Jamie Baker went on to St. Lawrence University, where he had four successful years with the hockey team of the College. From the Quebec Nordiques, he was selected in 1988 to eighth place in the NHL Supplemental Draft and joined the organization of the NHL teams in the fall of 1989.

For three years, Baker shuttled between the Nordiques and the Halifax Citadel, the AHL farm team of the franchise, a solid place in the NHL squad jumped for him but in the end not come out. In 1992, he signed a contract with the Ottawa Senators newly established. As had been expected it was the season for the new team good at all and it could be won only ten of 84 games. Baker was still one of the highlights of the team, was the second best scorer of the Senators, scoring with 48 points a Career.

In September 1993, the San Jose Sharks took him under contract, for which he played for three years. Particularly memorable was doing his winning goal in the seventh game against the heavily favored Detroit Red Wings in the first round of the playoffs in 1994, which meant a place in the second round.

In the summer of 1996 he was transferred to the Toronto Maple Leafs. There he played in 1996/97 still in the NHL, but came the next year mainly just for the AHL farm team Chicago Wolves used, with whom he won the Turner Cup. Shortly before the start of the 1998/99 season he returned to San Jose and graduated from the season opening game with the team in Japan. That was his only time of the season for the Sharks and also his last in the NHL. He changed during the season still in the Finnish SM- liiga for HIFK Helsinki and finished his career after the season. Baker was a good defensive forward who could prove his qualities, especially in close games.

In 2005 he returned again to San Jose and has since worked as an expert in the radio broadcasts of the games of the Sharks. At the beginning of the season 2006/ 07 he led for some time by the popular TV show Shark Byte, the background reports and stories to the San Jose Sharks as the content has. Among other things, he interviewed the German players Marcel Goc and Christian Ehrhoff in testing the new Playstation and grilled sausages with the Finnish Vesa Toskala and Ville Nieminen players in a sauna.
