Jan ÄŒep

January Čep ( born December 31, 1902 in Myslechovice; † January 25, 1973 in Paris) was a Czech writer and translator Catholic -oriented works in ( German, English and French ) language.

Life

He studied at the Prague Faculty of Philosophy. After the communist coup ( in February 1948) he was excluded from the Syndicate of Czech writer on 26 February 1948. In August 1948, he emigrated to France (Paris). There he lived until his death. 1951-1954 he lived in between in Munich. Here he worked for the radio station Free Europe. After returning to Paris in 1954, he worked as a freelancer for the transmitter on. In the distance he did not feel well, the longing for his homeland was strong. He also thought of becoming a priest, but then married 1954. 1965 he had a stroke that made him impossible for further work.

Works

His work influenced the stay with Josef Florian, Czech publishers and translators ( publishing house " Dobré Dílo " Good Opus ). He wrote in short sentences written, linguistically well-formed prose. In Tausengüldenkraut ( Zeměžluč, 1931) is the summary of two books ( Dvojí domov and Vigil ). The heroes must overcome a heavy fate by the return to Erbtraditionen and faith issues. In the limit of the shadow ( Hranice stínu ) ( 1935), he describes the teachers Randa, who returns after a disappointment in love, and loss of existence in his home and there finds the meaning of life. About the return home is also the book Blue and Gold ( Modra a zlatá ) ( 1938). The face under the spinning industry ( TVAR pod pavučinou ) ( 1941), in turn, deals supplemented by nostalgic and tragic sense of death with his favorite topic return. Other works, stories, essays, he wrote partly in French.
