Josef Florian
Josef Florian ( born February 9, 1873 in Hladov; † 29 December 1941 Stara Říše ) was a Czech writer, translator and editor of and influential Catholic reformers.
Life
Josef Florian came from a family of a carpenter in the village Hladov ( starvation ) in Jihlava ( Jihlava ). He graduated from the school in Telc, worked one year as a teacher in Kostelní Myslová ( Kirchmyslau ) in Telc. After that, he enrolled as a student at the Technical University in Prague. First, he studied natural sciences, then he moved on to the Faculty of Arts. In 1889 he accepted the position of Middle School Professor of Natural History in Náchod. After reading an article by Léon Bloy in 1891 he gave up his position and devoted himself entirely to a '' evangelization of society '' and the acquisition of new spirituality. In 1902 he goes to Mořkov where he worked with Karel Dostal - Lutinov in the editorial department of the newspaper New Life ( Nový život ) at Nový Jičín. After half a year he left the newspaper and went back to Hladov in the parental home. In 1903 he founded the publishing house " Dobré Dílo " (Eng. Good work, Latin opus bonum ) under the slogan '' The true university of today is a collection of books will be ''. For that he got in touch with Léon Bloy. Karel Dostal - Lutinov said about in '' Florian watched by his hermit hut from the current of modern life and - spits into it, no, he calls to conversion to'' In 1911 he was imprisoned in 1913 and returned back to his parents' house.. His family, wife and 12 children were integrated into its culture and mission work. With great hardships, he translated 60 works of European literature, and brought out in Czech. Thus, the first Czech Kafka - book edition ( The Metamorphosis - a bibliophile feat ), poetry of Georg Trakl and Rainer Maria Rilke, works of Paul Claudel, Charles Peguy, Georges Bernanos, Francis Jammes, Tristan corbière, Paul Valéry, Sherwood Anderson, William Butler Yeats, GK Chesterton, among others In publishing " Dobré Dílo " published the first Czech translations of philosophical works of Gabriel Marcel, Jacques Maritain, Leo Shestov Isaakowitsch, Max Scheler, Maurice Blondel. Worked to the graphic with the Josef Florian for the bibliographic interesting issues were Bohuslav Reynek, Josef Váchal, Josef Čapek and their own children. In 1941 he became seriously ill and died on December 29, 1941.
