Jan Černý-Nigranus

Jan Černý set out - Nigranus (Latin Johannes Nigrinus; * 1500/1510 in Kunvald, † February 5, 1565 in Mladá Boleslav ) was bishop of the Unity of Czech Brethren and historians.

Life

In 1537 he was ordained a priest and worked at Brandeis in the Unity of Czech Brethren under the protection of nobles Konrad Kraiger of Kraigk († 1572). Since he narrowly escaped arrest after hostilities in 1543, he fled to Prague.

After 1546 a fire destroyed the Litomysl Archives of Brethren, he began with the collection of all the documents relating to the prosecution of the Hussites. He founded the historiography of the Brethren. Here he was the later bishop of the Brethren January Blahoslav the scribe Matěj Červenka and other support.

Were not the originals found, it filled the gap with reliable transcripts. After the suppression of the uprising stands 1547 he fled with the brothers Bishop Macha to Poland and Prussia. In 1550, he was appointed as the representative of the bishop and three years later together with Matěj Červenka to one of the four bishops. 1558 he was appointed magistrate.
