Jan Erixon

January Erixon ( born July 8, 1962 in Skellefteå ) is a retired Swedish professional ice hockey player and current coach, who has played in its active period from 1980 to 1994, including for the New York Rangers in the National Hockey League. His son Tim is also a professional hockey player.

Career

January Erixon began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at Skellefteå AIK, for the first team he made his debut, was in the 1980/81 season in the Elitserien, the highest Swedish league. In his rookie year he scored in 35 games seven goals and six assists. He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1981 in the second round than a total of 30 players from the New York Rangers. First, however, the attacker remained another two years in Skellefteå, before it ran aground 1983-1993 for his Draft Team New York Rangers in the National Hockey League. He scored 230 points scorer, with 64 goals in 614 games. When his contract was not renewed, he returned for the 1993/94 season back to his hometown club Skellefteå AIK, who was staying in the meantime, in the second class Division 1. At the end of the season the junior world champion finished in 1981 at the age of 32 years of his career.

Since 2010, Erixon is an assistant coach at the U20 Junior Skellefteå AIK in the SuperElit, the highest Swedish junior league.

Internationally

For Erixon Sweden took part in the junior level only at the Junior World Championship in 1981, in which he became world champion with his team. In addition, he was elected to the All-Star Team of the tournament. In the senior level, he stood in 1981 -up from their country at the Canada Cup and at the World Championships in 1982 and 1983.
