Jan Kazimierz Denhoff

John Casimir Denhoff (* June 6, 1649 in Warsaw, † June 20, 1697 in Rome) was a cardinal, diplomat of the Polish king John III. Sobieski and Bishop of Cesena.

Life

His parents were Theodore Denhoff and Katharina Franziska Countess of Besse, his godfather was the cardinal priests and later Polish king John II Casimir.

The basis of his education John Casimir Denhoff has experienced in the Jesuit College, he completed his studies in Paris. He was a canon in Gniezno and Ark deacon in Warsaw before. Of King John III Sobieski was sent to Rome by Pope Innocent XI. (1676-1689) to demand a more active participation in the league against the Turks.

The Pope gave him various positions within the Roman Curia, including the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature. He was Minister of Poland of the Holy See, was raised on 2 September 1686 and appointed Cardinal in 1687 as Bishop of Cesena.

Denhoff was a member of the College of Cardinals from 1695 to 1696 and participated in the conclaves of 1689 and of 1691.
