Jan Lála

January Lála ( born September 10, 1938 in Libická Lhotka, Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czechoslovak football player. With the Czechoslovak national team, he was runner-up in 1962.

Career

January Lála began playing football at Meteor Zizkov, a smaller club in Prague. Later, the defender played for Čechie Karlin. With 17 years Lála moved to Slavia Prague, where he made his debut in the first team in 1956. First, he was mainly used as an all rounder in midfield, he finally found a solid position on the right side of defense.

1958 left Lála Slavia to do his two-year military service at Dukla Pardubice. At the end of his involvement in Pardubice was accused to have moved a game. Lála threatened a two -year ban, of which one finally refrained.

1960 Lála returned back to Slavia, relegation end of the season in the 2nd league 1961/62 but managed its chances of promotion. Lála, has become one of the best right-back of Czechoslovakia, was appointed as a second division player in the national team on 22 April 1962. To the young defender courted Sparta Prague, he was forced into a change to the army club Dukla Prague, but Lála resisted and stayed with Slavia.

With the Football World Cup 1962 in Chile, he was a mainstay of the Czechoslovak team which played himself in the final, which they lost 1-3 against Brazil. Until 1967 Lála played 37 international matches, 2-1 against Poland on 28 October 1962, he scored his only goal. In 1964, he played in a European selection against Yugoslavia.

At club level Lála could not celebrate great successes and remained without a title. Slavia 1963 rose again from the 1st League and turned back time after two years in the 2nd league in 1965. In the season 1965/66 the Movers missed winning the Cup only on goal difference.

With almost 31 years Lála Slavia Prague left towards Switzerland, where he missed the title by just one point with Lausanne Sports in the season 1969/70. In 1973 he returned to Czechoslovakia and let his career at Spartak Ústí nad Labem finish.
