Jan Malypetr

January Malypetr ( born December 21, 1873 in Klobuky, † September 27, 1947 in Slany ) was a politician of the Czech Agrarian Party and from 1932 to 1935 Czechoslovak prime minister.

January Malypetr came from the family of a landowner. After visiting the school and the higher business school in Kadan, he worked on his parents' estate.

In 1899 he joined the Agrarian Party and in 1906 became a member of the Executive Committee. From 1911 he was mayor in his hometown Klobuky, from 1914 in the county town of Slany.

In 1918 he was a member of the first National Assembly, two years later he was confirmed in the first elections. He remained until 1939 member of this body.

From 1922 to 1925 he was Minister of the Interior, in 1932 he was elected Prime Minister and led three successive governments. In particular, in eliminating the consequences of the world economic crisis he was very successful.

After the German occupation in 1939, he moved back from public life. He did not participate in the resistance and was even involved in the 1944 founding of the Czech " League against Bolshevism ". After 1945 he was therefore brought to trial, but ultimately acquitted.
