Jan Mølby

January Mølby ( born July 4, 1963 in Kolding ) is a former Danish football player and coach. He is a cousin of Johnny Mølby, the 1992 European champion.

Playing career

Club career

Mølby began his professional career in his home town in Kolding IF. There he was appointed at the age of 19 years to the team captain. He quickly took his leave outside Denmark and moved to Ajax Amsterdam in 1982, where he was to play for two years.

In 1984 he moved to the Premier League for Liverpool. There he was a feared penalty taker. 62 goals, which he scored a total for the club, 42 goals were scored by penalty kicks. Here, in a cup game against Coventry City He even managed a penalty hat-trick.

In 1995 he was awarded several times. First, he ran for the Barnsley FC, then for Norwich City. After that he went to Swansea City, where he played until 1998.

International career

Mølby denied 1982-1990 a total of 33 caps for Denmark, where two goals get him. He participated with the state selection at the 1984 European Championship and the World Cup 1986.

After the active time

After ending his playing career Mølby worked as a sports commentator. He was obliged by the Kidderminster Harriers, who played in the Nationwide Conference as coach in 1999. In the first year of promotion to professional football. However, the club had massive problems due to low viewer response and the collapse of ITV Digital. Mølby therefore accepted an offer from Hull City to be their coach. He remained there only briefly because of various disputes and returned to Kidderminster. However, the success did not come and he finished the end of 2004 his commitment to the club.

Since then Mølby has worked as a television commentator for the Danish broadcaster TV 2 again. He is mainly used for international matches.
