Jan Widacki

January Stefan Widacki ( born January 6, 1948 in Kraków ) is a Polish legal scholar, professor, diplomat, politician and, since 2007 Member of the Sejm in the VI. Election period.

Scientific and professional work

In 1969 he finished his studies in law at the Jagiellonian University and also studied also philosophy. In 1972 he obtained his doctorate in law in 1977 and he received his habilitation. In the same year he took over the chair of criminology at the University of Silesia in Katowice, where he was Vice Dean also. From 1983 to 1990 he lectured at the Catholic University of Lublin and worked as a visiting professor in the United States. In 1984 he became a professor. Since 1996 he leads a law firm.

Public activity

In 2007 he founded the Movement for Democracy. He is a columnist of the left-wing weekly newspaper " Przegląd ".

In the 2007 parliamentary elections, he was for the electoral district of Krakow with 24 963 votes on the list of Lewica i Demokraci - selected ( Left and Democrats LiD ) in the Sejm. He is a member of the Sejm Commission of Administration and Interior and Deputy Chairman of the Commission for constitutional responsibility.

On 9 April 2008 he was co-founder of the Democratic faction.
