Janet Currie

Janet Marion Currie ( born March 29, 1960 in Ontario ) is a Canadian economist and university lecturer.

Career, teaching and research

Currie studied at the University of Toronto. In 1982, she completed her Bachelor of Arts degree with distinction, in the following year she graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Economics. Then she moved to Princeton University on, here she finished her Ph.D. degree in 1988 in economics.

After graduating, Currie went as an assistant professor first at the University of California at Los Angeles, from July, 1991 to the Boston Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1993 she returned as an associate professor at the University of California to Los Angeles, where she was appointed full professor in 1996. In July 2005 she took over the Charles E. Davidson Department of Economics, before she left the university a year later in the direction of Columbia University. There she sat as a professor before until the summer of 2009 the Faculty of Economics. In January of the year they had taken the Sami Mnaymneh Professorship. In June 2011, she returned to Princeton University, where she was appointed to the Henry Putnam Department of Economics. In parallel, she took over as director of the Center for Health and Wellbeing at the university.

Since 2009, Currie as Director responsible for the research program for the children of the National Bureau of Economic Research. A year later, she took over the post of chief editor of the Journal of Economic Literature.

In her research and teaching, Currie focuses mainly on health and well -being of children. She sat in her previous works in particular with governmental and non - governmental programs to improve health insurers, care within health systems, and nutrition programs for children apart.
