Janina David

Janina David (actually Janina Dawidowicz; born March 19, 1930 in Kalisz ) is a Polish-British writer and translator.

Life

The Polish Jew Janina David succeeded in 1943 to escape from the Warsaw ghetto. Her father was probably at Majdanek, the mother is not known. The end of the war she experienced hidden in a monastery. In 1946, she left Poland. They lived first in Paris, then emigrated to Australia, where she received a scholarship for the study of the arts and social sciences at the University of Melbourne. In 1958 she returned to Europe and worked as a social worker in various London hospitals. Since 1978 she has been working full time as a writer and translator of children 's books and radio plays for the BBC, among others.

Franz Peter Wirth (1919-1999) filmed the book A piece of heaven for the ARD (→ Movie). The then only seventeen years of Czech Actress Dana Vávrová (1967-2009) was also popular in Germany in this role.
