Geographical Location

The village belongs to the municipality of Bijeljina and is 11 km from the town of the same name in the south. History

Up to the present, the region has been little explored. Thus, it can not say exactly when the levels of the settlement Janja were settled. The oldest records testify that by the early 18th century Janja is mentioned. At this time it was known as a place with significant commercial enterprise and a population of about 4,000.

At the time of the Ottomans had the status of a kasaba, a settlement urban character. Then it was converted into a ajnaluk nahija and later in a. From 1867 to 1878 Janja was a mudirat, a so-called branch and to the Ottoman period, above the rank of a community. Since the occupation of Bosnia by Austria - Hungary in 1878 to 1961 Janja was an independent municipality with an area of 189 km ² and was then united with the municipality of Bijeljina.
