Jatiyo Sangshad

The Jatiyo Sangshad ( Bengali: জাতীয় সংসদ Jatio Shôngshod " National Parliament ") is the unicameral Parliament of Bangladesh.

Parliament comprises 350 deputies, 300 of which are elected for five years by majority vote directly by the people. Entitled to vote, all citizens are over the age of 18 years. 50 seats in parliament are reserved for women. The reserved seats are distributed among the parties represented in parliament in proportion to their share of the vote. The leader of the majority party in parliament is usually appointed prime minister of Bangladesh.

The Parliament is in the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban Parliament Building.

The last elections were held on 29 December 2008. The Speaker of Parliament since 2013, the politician Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury who is a member of the Awami League.
