Jaú National Park

The National Park Jaú (Portuguese Parque Nacional do Jaú ), with an area of 2.272 million hectares according to the National Park Montanhas do Tumucumaque the second largest in Brazil. It is located on the Rio Negro in Amazonas State - a little more than 200 km northwest of Manaus in the Amazon basin. Named after the Rio Jaú, a tributary of the Amazon, named Reserve was founded on 24 September 1980 and declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000. In 2003 he was extended to 52,000 km ² nature conservation complex " Central Amazon" (Central Amazon Conservation Complex).

On the temporarily flooded areas live jaguars, tapirs, manatees and crocodiles. You can reach the park by boat from Manaus.
