Java Speech API

The Java Speech API ( JSAPI ) specifies a platform-independent Java API for accessing different language technologies. In order to access voice control, speech recognition and voice response systems from Java programs is made possible out.

The Java Speech API is not part of JSE, but an optional extension. The API itself only determines the interface to speech technology which the Java Speech API to implement. Implementations of the Java Speech API 1, for example, FreeTTS, IBM Speech for Java, The Cloud Garden, Lernout & Hauspies TTS for Java Speech API, Conversa Web 3.0, Festival, Elan Speech Cube .. implementations of the Java Speech API 2, the reference implementation of Conversay and free implementation of the Darmstadt Technical University.

History

The first version of the Java Speech API was released on 26 October 1998. Formats as were the Java Speech Markup Language ( JSML ) and the Java Speech Grammar Format ( JSGF ). The second version was finalized on 7 May 2009 as JSR 113. The new version is the one to focus on mobile devices and access to the other current W3C standards of language technology, as used in the context of VoiceXML. This particular formats, such as the Speech Recognition Grammar Specification, and the Speech Synthesis Markup Language.

From the Technical University of Darmstadt, a base implementation independent of the Java Community Process as open source was placed on SourceForge under the GNU Lesser General Public License.
