Javier Barros Sierra

Javier Barros Sierra ( born February 25, 1915 in Mexico City; † August 15, 1971 ) was a Mexican engineer, politician and author.

Biography

Barros studied architecture at the Faculty of Engineering of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México ( UNAM) and later mathematics. He taught for 20 years at the Escuela Nacional Preparatoria and the Faculty of Engineering, was among other things, from 1954 to 30 November 1964, the first Mexican Secretario de Obras Publicas ( Social Affairs ), after the first director of the Instituto Mexicano del Petróleo (IMP ), Director of the Faculty of Engineering and Rector of the UNAM of 5 May 1966 to 20 April 1970. During this period the students there were riots of 1968. Nine days before the massacre at Tlatelolco, he resigned from his post and led the service as Rector of the University only after the liberation of the UNAM continued.
