Jay Hoggard

Jay Hoggard ( born September 28, 1954 in New York City ) is an American vibraphone player of modern jazz. He also plays xylophone and Balaphon.

Life and work

Jay Hoggard first played piano and saxophone, but then moved in the 1960s to the vibraphone as his main instrument. In New Haven in New England, he studied music and worked there in the 1970s with Anthony Davis and Wadada Leo Smith, then moved in 1988 to New York City, where he again played with Davis and Chico Freeman ( heard on the album "Spirit Sensitive " 1978 ), also with Bill Barron, John Blake, Bobby McFerrin, James Newton, John Purcell, Sam Rivers, Cecil Taylor, James Newton and Kenny Burrell ( " Guiding Spirit ", 1989). In 1992 he worked with tape production " Four (Ensemble ) Compositions," with Anthony Braxton's Big.
