Jazz in der Kirche

The Festival Jazz in the church was held for the first time in Mönchengladbach in June 2004.

The department of education and music, music promotion of the city Mönchengladbach presented together with the Catholic and Protestant churches as well as the Association of Church Musicians / - inside in Mönchengladbach together a program with high artistic standards. The festival aims to combine the venue church both as a place of meditation, sensuality, silence and music as well as a fixed point of modernity through the presentation of jazz into view. This Jazz is regarded as a modern synonym for old and new improvised music. Through the cooperation with church musicians of the city, in particular that of the Diocese of Aachen, were well-known international and national as well as local jazz musicians, especially from the Netherlands, will be required. Found next to the main program, in cooperation with the School of Music Mönchengladbach, gospel and jazz workshops, the results of which are traditionally presented in ecumenical service. The festival has a strong share of visitors in the age group of 35 to 45 years.

2004 saw over 2500 spectators 14 concerts in 10 days. Highlights of the program were, inter alia, the opening concert of the WDR Big Band Cologne, the appearance of the Gospel musician, Melbra Rai and organ concert of the jazz musician, Barbara Dennerlein.

2006 saw about 2,500 spectators 13 concerts. International musicians such as Markus Stockhausen, Lydia van Dam, Ramesh Shotham and Jasper van't Hof led to a high-quality, varied program.

In 2008, the Festival has established further. Musical highlights marked as conceptual concerts by, among other things Leonid Chizhik and band, Wolfgang soaps and Leonard Gincberg, and Nicolas Simion and ribbon.
