Jean-Baptiste Jacques Augustin

Jean -Baptiste Jacques Augustin ( born August 15, 1759 in Saint- Dié, † April 13, 1832 in Paris) was a French painter. He was known for his portraits and miniatures.

Augustin first took lessons from Jean -Baptiste Claudot and Jean Girardet in Nancy. After a few months in Dijon, he came to Paris in 1781, where he quickly gained notoriety. In the times of the French Revolution, he traveled through the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Germany. Back in Paris, he married in 1800 a his pupils, 22 years younger, Pauline Ducruet, a descendant of Jean de La Fontaine. 1806 Augustin official court painter, 1814, he was appointed the painter of the king. 1832 Augustin died of cholera. He was buried in the Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris.
