Jean-Baptiste Moreau

Jean -Baptiste Moreau ( * 1656 in Angers, † August 24, 1733 in Paris) was a French composer.

As a chorister at the Cathedral of St. Maurice of Angers Moreau learned the musicians craft. He worked a short time in Langres and Dijon, before he settled in Paris. Here he managed to introduce himself at court and was asked by King Louis XIV in service. Here he obtained the post of Kapellmeister in which Madame de Maintenon below " Maison de Saint Cyr " in which the composer Guillaume -Gabriel Nivers (1632-1714) was organist and singing teacher. In 1694 he became director of music of the " Musique des États du Languedoc " (the stands), but came to the capital after some time back. In his last years, he received a royal pension.

Moreau composed motets and set to music the choir performances in the biblical Esther and Athalie tragedies of Jean Racine ( 1639-1699 ). Even as a music educator, he was successful, but were composers like Michel Pignolet de Montéclair (1667-1737), Clérambault (1676-1749) and Dandrieu (1682-1738) to his students.
