Life and work

Jean -Claude Malgoire was influenced by his fellow students Heinz Holliger and connected to the 1980s, active contemporary French music. Charles Münch appointed him in 1962 as solo oboist and English horn player into the Orchestre de Paris. In 1968 he won the first prize at the International Music Competition in Geneva. In 1970 he played in the French premiere of Luciano Berio's work " Sequentia VII" and he became a soloist of the " ensemble 2e2m " 1972.

Influenced by his teacher Antoine Geoffroy- Dechaume (1905-2000), a leading member of the " Société de musique d' autrefois ", founded in 1966 with colleagues Malgoire the ensemble " La Grande Ecurie et la Chambre du Roi ", one of the first baroque ensembles with historical performance practice in France. The group has so far raised over 100 recordings and given more than 3000 concerts on five continents. Parallel to his work as a conductor of the ensemble played Malgoire in various symphony orchestras, among others under the direction of Seiji Ozawa and Herbert von Karajan.

Since 1975 Malgoire has recorded several operas on historical instruments, including the world premieres of Handel's " Rinaldo " and Lully's " Alceste ". Since its founding in 1981, he has been artistic director of the "Atelier lyrique " in Tourcoing, which he shaped into an opera house with a varied repertoire. In 1992 he was awarded for his recording of Vivaldi's " Motezuma " a prize at the French competition " Victoires de la musique ".
