Jean de la Vallée

Jean de la Vallée (* 1624 in France, † 1696 in Stockholm ) was one of the chief architects of Sweden in the second half of the 17th century. He was royal architect from 1691, Stockholm mayor from 1671 Stockholm's City Architect from 1680 and was knighted in 1692.

Jean de la Vallée was born in 1620 as son of the architect Simon de la Vallée and came as a child with his father to Sweden. After training by the father and study trips to Italy and France, he was recalled in 1650 to Sweden. He was entrusted with orders for the expansion of Stockholm, among other things, he created the Oxenstiernska Palace and the Palace Bondeska, directed the construction of the designed by his father knight house and built the Katarinakirche and Hedvig Eleonora Church in Stockholm. Among his locks are the locks Karlberg, Venngarn and Runsa the most important, to whom he also created gardens in the French style.
