Jean-Edouard de Castella

Jean -Edouard (or Jean- Edward) de Castella ( born November 21, 1881 in Lilydale, Australia, † 26 July 1966 in Freiburg) was a Swiss painter

Life

Born in 1881 in Australia, Jean -Edouard de Castella has come with his family in 1887 in Switzerland. In 1901 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, where he met Paul Klee. Then he attended the class of Ferdinand Hodler together with siner sister Nathalie at the Technicum in Freiburg. There he studied with Raymond Buchs, Hiram Brülhart and Oswald Pilloud. In 1903 he went to Paris and studied at the Académie Julian.
