Jean François-Poncet

Jean François- Poncet ( born December 8, 1928 in Paris, † July 18, 2012 ) was a French diplomat and politician. He was the son of André François- Poncet and the brother of François Missoffe.

Life

Studies and diplomatic career

After studying law and economics and graduated from the École nationale d'administration (ENA ), he entered the diplomatic service. First, in 1955 he became Secretary. Later uses followed as office manager of the State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as Secretary General of the French delegation in negotiations to form a common market within the then European Communities and the European Atomic Energy Community (EURATOM).

Subsequently, he was Deputy Director for European organizations at the Quai d' Orsay, as well as director of a technical support mission in Morocco. Most recently, he was Counsellor at the Embassy in Persia.

In 1970 François- Poncet, the diplomatic service and spent the next six years director of the leading French manufacturer of metal packaging, the corporation Carnaud SA.

Political career

Ascent to the Secretary of State

In January 1976 he returned to government service and was initially appointed Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Jean Sauvagnargues in the first cabinet of Jacques Chirac. In August 1976 he was General Secretary of the President, Valéry Giscard d' Estaing in the Elysee Palace.

On November 29, 1978, he was appointed the successor of Louis de Guiringaud as foreign minister in the cabinet of Raymond Barre. Senator

In 1978 François- Poncet was first elected President of the General Council ( Conseil général) of the department of Lot- et- Garonne. This office he held until 1994 and again from 1998 to 2004.

In 1983 he was first elected to the Rassemblement Démocratique et Européen (RDE ), which belongs to the only party Union pour un mouvement populaire (UMP ) now a senator. In this office he was confirmed in 1992 and 2001.
