Michel Jobert

Michel Jobert ( born September 11, 1921 in Meknes, Morocco; † 25 May 2002, Paris) was a French politician.

Life

In the years 1969 to 1973, he served as a senior official from the Elysee Palace. April 4, 1973 to May 28, 1974 Jobert was Foreign Minister of the Fifth French Republic under Prime Minister Pierre Messmer.

When campaigning in 1974, he supported Jacques Chaban -Delmas, but after the election victory of Valéry Giscard d' Estaing founded Jobert own political movement, the Mouvement des démocrates. In 1981, he supported then in the presidential campaign François Mitterrand and was then Minister of Foreign Trade with the title of Minister of State. From this office he resigned in 1983.

As a soldier in Italy, his regiment was mistakenly bombed twice by the Americans, in which he almost lost his life.
