Jean-Jacques Favier

Jean -Jacques Favier ( born April 13, 1949 in Kehl, Germany ) is a former French astronaut.
Biography
Scientific activity
Favier 1972 received a degree in professional engineering from the National Polytechnic Institute of Grenoble. In 1976 he received a doctorate in engineering and metallurgy in 1977 from the University of Grenoble. After his training, he was Advisor to the Director at the Materials Research Center of the French Atomic Energy Commission for the MEPHISTO program.
Astronauts activity
In September 1985, Favier was selected by the French space agency CNES as astronaut candidate. Later Favier was one of 61 European and six French candidates for the ESA selection of 1991. However, he was not included in the European Astronaut Corps. Favier was in 1992 in the backup crew for the Space Shuttle mission STS- 65th
Favier launched on 20 June 1996 as a payload specialist aboard the space shuttle Columbia ( STS -78 ) to the hitherto longest flight of a space shuttle (16d 21h 48m ). Task were microgravity experiments in the Life and Microgravity Spacelab (LMS ), which were needed as a basis for future experiments on the International Space Station (ISS).
Since September 1999 he has been deputy director of space technology, the CNES.

Jean -Jacques Favier has four children with his wife Michele.
