Jean Le Moal ( born October 30, 1909 in Authon -du -Perche, France, † March 16, 2007 in Chilly -Mazarin, France) was a French painter, theater decorator and sculptor. He is one of the most important representatives of Abstract painting after the Second World War.

Life

Jean Le Moal spent his childhood in the Ardèche, and often traveled to Brittany. In 1923 he came to the high school Annecy. From 1926 studied Le Moal at the École des Beaux -Arts of Lyon. He visited museums, dealt with painting and literature of Élie Faure.

In 1929 he moved to Paris. There he occupied himself with the art of Paul Cézanne, with Le Corbusier, the current trends of Cubism and Fauvism, and the work of Othon Friesz, Amedeo Modigliani, Chaim Soutine and André Derain. In the Louvre he copied paintings from different eras.

He began studying at the Academies de Montparnasse. In 1931 he met Alfred Manessier and know 1935 Jean Bertrand Holle. With both he formed a close friendship. Together with Alfred Manessier he enrolled at the Académie Ranson in a Roger Bissière. Along with Étienne Martin and François Stahly, Le Moal worked with sculpture.

Together with Bert Holle, Bissière, Manessier, Etienne Martin and Stahly he presented in 1936 in Lyon, 1938 and 1939 at the Paris Salon d' Automne ( Autumn Salon ) from, as well as the group, " Testimony ," which was directed by Marcel Michaud. In 1937, he learns Robert Delaunay and decorated with Bert Holle and Manessier a pavilion of a traffic event. With Jean Bazaine, he designed a pavilion in a hostel. At the same time he also worked as a theater decorator.

At the 1941 in the gallery Brown organized by Bazaine exhibition " Vingt jeunes de tradition française peintres » he participated with Bert Holle, Charles Lapicque, Manessier, Édouard Pignon, Gustave Singier and others. With such exhibitions they all protested against the defamation of modern art as degenerate art by the Nazis.

1952, died Le Moals woman sculptor Juana Muller. In the following decades his work has received international attention and recognition. In 1959 he took part in documenta II in Kassel. Into old age, he worked as a theater decorator artistic, painter and designer of stained glass windows in churches and cathedrals.
