Jean-Marie Auberson

Jean -Marie Auberson ( born 2 May 1920 in Chavornay, Switzerland; † 4 July 2004 in Draguignan, southern France ) was a Swiss conductor and violinist.

Life

He studied violin with Victor Desarzens, viola with Alfred Pochon and theory with Alexandre Denereaz and Aloÿs Fornerod at the Conservatoire de Lausanne and at the Cologne Musikhochschule. From 1943 to 1946 he was the violinist in the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne and from 1946 to 1949 as a violist in the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. This was followed from 1950 to 1951 conducting with Paul van Kempen at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Wolfgang von der Nahmer in Vienna and with Günter Wand in Cologne. He was also a student of Ernest Ansermet and Carl Schuricht. From 1956 to 1962 he was conductor of the Radio Beromunster ( Switzerland ) and from 1962 to 1968 at the St. Gallen Symphony. From 1963 to 1965 he was assistant conductor of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne. He was then conductor 1968 ( until 1973 ) at the Hamburg State Opera. From 1972 to 1975 he directed the Radio -Sinfonieorchester Basel. From 1984 to 1986 he was conductor of the Basel Sinfonietta.
