Jeanne Lamon

Jeanne Lamon ( born August 14, 1949 in New York City ) is a Canadian violinist and conductor of U.S. origin.

Life

Lamon began violin lessons at the age of seven. Later she moved to Brandeis University in Boston, where she studied with Robert Koff (1919-2005), after which she continued her studies with Herman Krebbers in the Netherlands. 1972 and 1973 she studied baroque violin and orchestra conducting with Sigiswald Kuijken. In the following years she played in well-known European and American Baroque ensembles in chamber music or concert master.

From 1978 she was a lecturer in the Department of Early Music at Smith College in Massachusetts. In 1981, she received an invitation to Canada to work with the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra, founded in 1979, then she was offered the director of the orchestra at. She moved to Toronto in 1988 and received Canadian citizenship.

Under her leadership, the Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra reached an internationally recognized status and is one of the finest ensembles of its kind

She teaches at the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto and the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto. For her contributions to the Historical Performance Practice in Baroque music Lamon has received numerous international awards, 1974 Erwin Bodky Award for Early Music.
