Jeff Kanew

Jeff Kanev ( born December 16, 1944 in Brooklyn, New York City ) is an American film director, screenwriter and editor.

Life

Jeff Kanev studied at Columbia University and has worked during this period at the United Artists in the trailer department, where he co-designed eg trailer for The Graduate and Midnight Cowboy. In 1966 he opened his own production company Utopia Productions. In 1971 he directed his first film, the documentary film Black Rodeo on a rodeo in New York's Harlem, and received positive reviews. 1977 sold Kanev Utopia Productions to finance his first feature film Natural Enemies, published in 1979. Soon after, the actor Robert Redford approached him and asked him to cut his directorial debut Ordinary People (1980). Two years later, he wrote and directed his second film head hunting. In 1984, his film Revenge of the Nerds in the American cinema and was - although financed with a small budget - a success. A year later he again turned a comedy. Gotcha! - An incredible trip, however, was at the box office not as successful as its predecessor work. In the same year, he directed a series for the crime series Alfred Hitchcock Presents entitled Night Fever. 1986 appeared the caper comedy Archie and Harry - you can not get leave with Burt Lancaster and Kirk Douglas in the lead roles. 1989 and 1991 appeared the two comedies Troop Beverly Hills with Shelley Long and VI Warshawski - detective in silk stockings with Kathleen Turner, who both proved unsuccessful. In the years 2000 and 2001, he directed three episodes of the series Touched by an Angel. Followed in 2003 by the film Babi Yar - The forgotten crime on the murder of 33,771 Jews in the Babi Yar ravine in Kiev, which was produced by Artur Brauner company Central Cinema Company. Two years later, the romantic comedy Adam and Eve appeared with Cameron Douglas and Emmanuelle Chriqui in the lead roles.
