Jenny Greenteeth

Jenny Greenteeth (German: Jenny green teeth ) is a character from English folklore. It is a kind of flow witch, similar to the figure of the Peg Powler; it is said that she pulls and drowned children and the elderly into the water. It is often described with green skin, long hair and sharp teeth. In Lancashire it is Jinny Greenteeth, called in Cheshire and Shropshire turn Ginny Greenteeth, Wicked Jenny, or Peg o ' Nell.

It may have been invented to scare children and thus keep them away from dangerous waters similar to the Slavic countries in Rusalka, the Kappa in Japanese mythology or the Australian Bunyip. Other folklorists see them as a reminder of religious sacrifices.
