Jenny Lind Island

The Jenny Lind Iceland is a 420 km ² island in the Kitikmeot region of Nunavut Canadian territory.

The island is 20 km off the southeast coast of Victoria and Iceland about 120 km south-east of the settlement of Cambridge Bay.

The island was named after the Swedish-born opera singer Jenny Lind.

Geography

The relief of the island has rocky terrain edges, low-lying wetlands, areas with sedge and sandy shorelines.

Fauna

Jenny Lind Iceland bears the status of Important Bird Area (# NU088 ) in Canada, and one from the Canadian Wildlife Service as an important resting and breeding area for migratory birds ( " Key Habitat Site") classified area. Mention may be made following bird species: the Canada Goose, the Little Snow Goose ( C. c caerulescens. ) And the dwarf snow goose.

Musk oxen live on the island.

History

The island is uninhabited. However, it is still used by the North Warning System. Originally it was part of the Distant Early Warning Line, known as the site CAM -1.

From time to time, the island of cruise ships is driven on their way through the Northwest Passage.
