Jeremy Purvis

Jeremy Purvis, Purvis Baron of Tweed ( born January 15, 1974 in Berwick -upon- Tweed ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Liberal Democrats.

Political career

Purvis attended the Berwick -upon- Tweed High School and then studied politics and modern history at Brunel University in London. After studying Purvis was the Liberal Democrat member of the House of Lords, David Steel, works. After Ian Jenkins, who was able to win in the first Scottish Parliament elections in 1999 the direct mandate of the constituency Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale for the Liberal Democrats to the following parliamentary elections in 2003 no longer took, Purvis was determined to be his successor. In the parliamentary elections in 2007, he defended his position. He was appointed party Pecher for education, youth and lifelong learning, and in May 2008 the party spokesman for the Economy and Finance. As part of the constituency reform of 2011, the constituency Tweeddale, Ettrick and Lauderdale was dissolved and largely replaced by the newly created constituency of Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale. For this candidate Purvis in the parliamentary elections in 2011, but could not prevail against Christine Grahame of the SNP and retired from the Parliament from.

On September 13, 2013 Purvis was raised to life peer with the title Baron Purvis of Tweed, of East Marsh in the Scottish Borders and thus a member of the House of Lords.
