Jeremy Spencer

Jeremy Spencer ( born July 4, 1948 in Hartlepool ) was one of the founding members of the British rock - blues band Fleetwood Mac. He was discovered by Mike Vernon during a performance with his band, the "The Levi Set Blues", in Birmingham.

Although Vernon saw no future for the rest of the band, he was impressed by Spencer's slide guitar playing ". Jeremy really blew me away " Jeremy was rather small, with black curly hair, not unlike Peter Green, and played slide with a large semi- acoustic electric guitar. Vernon, who knew that Peter Green was looking for a guitarist for his band, arranged a meeting between the two. Soon after, they began rehearsing with drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist Bob Brunning. Spencer was only 18 years old when he Fleetwood Mac - how named the band later - boarding.

Spencer's contribution to the band consisted of cover versions of old Elmore James song. He imitated James so perfectly that Mick Fleetwood once said: " Jeremy is like a chameleon, of course, in the best sense of the word ." The ability Jeremy imitate rock'n'roll greats like Elvis, Little Richard and Buddy Holly, the band brought to play parodies of well-known pop songs from the fifties. Despite its amusing parodies Spencer was a musician whom it was not necessarily to write their own songs, which he had always refused. In January 1970, after the release of the album "Then Play On " to which Spencer only a small piano passage ( Oh well part 2) contributed, he released a solo album with rock and roll satire on which he of Rockabilly about Boogie, Elvis Presley to Pink Floyd all parodied. The album was recorded together with the other members of Fleetwood Mac. There was even a conversation between Peter Green and Spencer, together take an epic plate with religious themes, but this he never came.

After Peter Green Fleetwood Mac had left in May 1970, Jeremy took one last drive, " Kilnhouse " with the band. He was with his ( and Danny Kirwans ) task - to fill the hole that Peter Green had left - quite dissatisfied. " All I can play is rock ' n ' roll. Peter was a developed musician. I could not deliver the material that people now expect from us. "

Two weeks later, during their tour to the presentation of the album, Jeremy disappeared in Los Angeles. He had left the hotel at 3:00 clock in the afternoon to a bookstore on Hollywood Blvd. to visit. On the way there he was approached on the street by a member of the religious sect " children of God". Since he did not show up on the evening of the concert, the police were involved. Five worry filled days later was Jeremy's track to the headquarters of the track "Children of God", a warehouse in downtown LA. To see Spencer, had to invent a story about a serious disease of Jeremy's wife Fiona, his manager Clifford Davis. According to the testimony of a Roadies of Fleetwood Mac, who was there, Spencer went numb around like a zombie, just as if you had subjected him to brainwashing. "It hurt me inside to see him so. His head was shaved and he now responded to the biblical name Jonathan. " Davis and Spencer talked for 3 hours, while members of the cult rubbed Jeremy's arms and repeated " Jesus loves you " sang. Much like Peter Green also Jeremy around the veneration felt unworthy that he had with the band. Ironically, asked the rest of the band members Peter Green to step in for Jeremy, which he did.

1975, when Jeremy returned to London, he formed a new band called " Albatross " with other members of the " children of God". Of course, her repertoire included " his tireless Tribute to Elmore James, this time probably played with a clean conscience. " In 1979, he released the album " Flee ".

Jeremy is still a part of the " family " as the " children of God" are called today, and is still an avid musician.

In March 1995 he played at some concerts in India with the group " Heart to Heart ", which also consists of members of the "family". He also appeared at the beginning of 1998 in Bombay and New Delhi. On February 12, 1998, he was inducted into the Rock ' n' Roll Hall of Fame in New York.

In 2006 appeared a new album, recorded in Norway with Norwegian musicians.
