Jérôme Valcke

Jérôme Valcke ( born October 6, 1960) is a French manager and since June 27, 2007 Secretary General of the International World Football Federation (FIFA) in Zurich.

Activities

A sports journalist for Canal

Valcke was active from 1984 to the French television company Canal as a journalist. From 1991 to 1997 he held the post of deputy sports bosses. He took over in 1997 the position of Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) of the sports channel Sport , a position he held until 2002.

ISL and Sport Five

In April 2001, he represented the parent company of Canal , the media conglomerate Vivendi, in the audit of an insolvent International Sport and Leisure (ISL ), then the principal business partner of FIFA. From 2002 to 2003 Valcke worked in the sports rights agency Sportfive at its headquarters in Geneva as Chief Operating Officer ( COO).

FIFA Director of Marketing and release after court ruling

In summer 2003, Valcke joined the International World Football Federation ( FIFA) and took over the post of Director Marketing & TV. In December 2006, the FIFA separated immediately from him. A New York court had found him guilty, performed in his role as marketing director from the summer of 2004 in spite of the existing contract between FIFA and its longstanding partner MasterCard sponsors negotiations with the rival Visa and MasterCard violated the right of first negotiation to have. FIFA has been sentenced to fines totaling 60 million U.S. dollars.

Appointment as FIFA General Secretary

At the meeting of the FIFA Executive Committee of 27 June 2007 under the chairmanship of President Sepp Blatter Valcke was presented as the new FIFA Secretary General and elected to succeed the resigned on 11 June 2007 Linsi. Valcke was the first Secretary General of FIFA since 1956, which did not come from Switzerland.

His election surprised the public, since FIFA had previously separated for half a year because of the disaster with the two U.S. credit card companies from him. FIFA President Blatter commented on the reinstatement as follows: "Strong brings people back to. When he resumed his work as Director of Marketing and TV in the FIFA four and a half years, we were in the red. We now have a fortune of 752 million Swiss francs. And Linsi left us voluntarily. " According to Blatter, Valcke is exempted in December and not dismissed. Valcke responded to his election with the following statement: ". It's like a dream for me "

Private

Valcke is married and father of two children. In addition to his native French, he speaks English, German and Spanish.
