Jerry Heidenreich

Jerry Heidenreich ( born February 4, 1950 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, † 18 April 2002 in Paris, Texas ) was an American swimmer and two-time Olympic champion.

Career

Heidenreich graduated from Southern Methodist University and won the University Championships the NCAA Tiel over 220 yards freestyle.

In 1972 he took up at the Summer Olympic Games in Munich and won with the U.S. swimming seasons two gold medals there. In the individual competitions he won a silver medal in the 100m freestyle and a bronze in the 100m butterfly.

Heidenreich could field a total of six world records in his career. He was inducted in 1992 into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in Fort Lauderdale.

On 18 April 2002 Heidenreich committed suicide.
