Jesse Guthrie

Jesse Guthrie ( born October 23, 1958 in Huntsville, Alabama ) is a pioneer of the sport climbing in the U.S. and author. He has published four novels and an autobiography.

Life

At the age of 13 he began in Seneca Rocks in West Virginia with the rock climbing. After his high school graduation he ran alongside his climbing career and the rodeo as a professional in the American Rodeo Association.

Between 1985 and 1986 he lived in Germany, where he rose with his friends Wolfgang Güllich, Kurt Albert and Jerry Moffatt many sport climbing routes in the uppermost levels of difficulty. The redpoint climbing philosophy Kurt Alberts and the sophisticated training methods Wolfgang Güllichs very influenced him. ("This was the true beginning of my climbing career. " )

When he went back to the U.S. in 1986, he made several first ascents there in Difficulty X ( UIAA ) and X .

He climbed in Africa, South America and made together with Jeff Lowe and Catherine Destivelle an expedition to Makalu in the Himalayas.

Since 2003 he lives with his wife and daughter in Prague, Czech Republic.
