Ještěd Tower

The TV Tower Ještěd is a 100 -meter high structure, which was built by architect Karel Hubacek as Hyperboloidkonstruktion 1963-1973. The TV Tower stands on the summit of Mount Ještěd in Jeschke mountain near Liberec in the Czech Republic and houses a hotel. The form of the building adds to the silhouette of the mountain so that it is perceived by the far distance as natural part of the mountain. The building is a landmark of the region to Liberec. History

On January 31, 1963, the lookout tower and shelter for hikers were destroyed in Jested by several fires. The architect Karel Hubacek was awarded the contract in a competition for his concept to include a hotel and a transmission tower in a building. Foundation stone was laid on 30 July 1966. The construction of the tower was delayed by the suppression of the Prague Spring on 21 August 1968. On the Ještěd a temporary radio station was set up to try to mobilize the population to civil disobedience against the communist regime and remained undiscovered until August 27, 1968.

Against the semi-finished tower resistance formed. The work on the building were thrown " capitalist construction " and use of "Western materials " before. Especially the individual interior displeased the political leadership. The architect for the building was awarded the 1969 Auguste Perret Prize, it was due to the architectural exceptionalism as persona non grata and was not allowed to attend the opening ceremony on 21 October 1973.

The building has received numerous awards. He was a national cultural monument and Best Czech building of the 20th century ( 2000). In 2010, a recording method was planned in the Unesco World Heritage list.

Description

The TV Tower Ještěd is in the bottom 30 meters of a rigid concrete core of 13 meters in diameter. Up to a height of 41 meters, the building tapers to 5 feet in diameter.
