Jesús López-Cobos

Jesús López Cobos ( born February 25, 1940 in Toro, Zamora Province ) is a Spanish conductor.

López Cobos initially studied philosophy at the University Complutense of Madrid, closing the compartment with a thesis. Only later, he recorded his musical studies and studied conducting with Franco Ferrara and among others Hans Swarovsky.

From 1981 to 1990 he was music director of the Deutsche Oper Berlin and from 1984 to 1988 in addition Music Director of the Spanish National Orchestra. 1986-2000 was Jesús López Cobos Chief Conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and from 1990 to 2000 chief conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of Lausanne. From 2002 to 2010 he was music director of the Teatro Real in Madrid.
