Jiaohe Ruins

The ruined city of Jiaohe and altuigurisch - Mongolian Yar- Khoto (Ch Ya'erhu Gucheng雅尔 湖 故城) is an archaeological site in the area of the city of Turfan in Xinjiang, China. It is located approximately 10 kilometers west of Turfan on a 30 m high rock plateau in Yarnaz Valley.

History

The city has a very long history and experienced from the time of the Sixteen Kingdoms until the time of the Northern Dynasties in Gaochang Kingdom and in the early Tang period their heyday. It can be seen the ruins of former residential and administrative buildings on the northern edge are the remains of two Buddhist monasteries and a large stupa to see.

According to historical reports, the city was from 108 BC to 450 the capital of the former kingdom Cheshi (Ch Cheshi qian Wangguo车 师 前 王国), one of the Thirty-six kingdoms of the Western Regions. The city has been taken in the Han period by the Chinese as a fortress to complete. In the early years of the Tang Dynasty was the command office of the government of Anxi, the highest military and administrative institution of the Western Region ( Xiyu ), stationed here ( 640-658 ), which was later moved to Kucha. In the second half of the 13th century, the city was burned down.

The site was explored end of the 19th century by the Russian Dmitry Klementz, in the late 20s of the 20th century. Huang Wenbi.

Since 1961, the site is on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 1-155 ).
