Jill Greenberg
Jill Greenberg (* July 1967 in Montreal) is an American photographer.
Jill Greenberg grew up in a Detroit suburb. After school she studied photography at the Rhode Iceland School of Design in Providence, where she graduated in 1989. She then worked as a freelance photographer in New York, from 2000 in Los Angeles.
Greenberg was both artistically and also worked for the advertising industry. They designed, among other things, a cover of Time magazine and the cover of the CD Everything Is Wrong by Moby and ambient.
Your photos and photo series show almost exclusively humans and animals, which are usually alone in front of a very artificial and arranges acting background - often before monochrome studio backgrounds. With the advent of digital photography Greenberg began to alienate their shots later on the computer. They were usually smoothed and the contrast increased, which can seem even more unreal the recordings.
Photo series End Times
Doubtful achieved fame Greenberg introduced in 2006 by her photo series End Times ( German end time). For the series, she invited about three year-old children in her studio, where she placed bare-chested in front of the camera, gave them candy and then took off again. Then photographed the reactions of the children who were crying and mostly shouted.
The photo series sparked among parts of the population of large protests. In the book its website Greenberg was abused vehemently and compared with Michael Jackson and Adolf Hitler. Critics accuse her of abuse of children they have tortured for profit. In the meantime, the gallery therefore took the series of images from the mains.
Greenberg said in her defense, no child has come to harm. It is a being of children characters to react to small inconvenience with fierce, great pain expressions Direction gestures and facial expressions. However, such inconveniences are everyday occurrences for each child.
Greenberg points out, the photo series was politically motivated. She wanted so to express their own powerlessness against the political and social situation in the United States. The government would act like standing before the end time, in securing the future play no role.
Private
Greenberg is married and has two children. Their daughter Violet is Actress on one of the End Times images.
