Jill Kinmont Boothe

Jill Kinmont Boothe ( born February 16, 1936 in Los Angeles, California, † February 9, 2012 in Carson City, Nevada) was an American alpine skier.

Life

Kinmont was considered a promising candidate for the 1956 Winter Olympics in Cortina d' Ampezzo. In test competitions in Alta ( Utah) but Kinmont was born on January 25, 1955 during a descent of the slope now and hit a tree. The case suffered fracture of her spine resulted in paraplegia.

After their stay in a rehabilitation clinic sat Kinmont continued her art studies at UCLA and graduated from the University of Washington with a teaching certificate from. She taught first in Washington and Beverly Hills and returned in 1975 to her hometown of Bishop, where she worked until her retirement in 1996. There she married in November 1976 her husband John.

Kinmonts story was the subject of the biography published in 1966, A Long Way Up by EG Valens. The book was in 1975 with the success of Larry Peerce under the title The flip side of the coin ( Original title: The Other Side of the Mountain ) filmed in 1978 the sequel, The Other Side of the Mountain Part II followed. In both films, Marilyn Hassett held the main role of the injured skier.
