Jim Sullivan (rugby league)

Jim Sullivan (* December 1903 in Cardiff, Wales, † 1977 in Wigan, England) was a Welsh rugby league players at the position of the final man and was after his playing career rugby coaches.

1921 Sullivan joined by a game for the Barbarians from the Welsh rugby union club Cardiff RFC for English rugby league club Wigan Warriors. Over the next 20 years, he dominated the final position of the man in the British Rugby League. Until 1946 he was in 774 games at 2,317 successful kicks on the times Tangen and 4,883 points for Wigan; an even better yield was prevented by the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939. After the end of the war he came only to a few appearances for the Batley Bulldogs.

The Wigan Warriors, he is still the player with the most career points and inserts. His 161 successful kicks on the times Tangen for Wigan in the 1934/35 season remained until the 1980s, British record. He also holds the record for the most successful kicks on the Tangen times in a game of British Rugby Leagues and thus is considered the best kicker of all time. He graduated from internationals for Wales, Great Britain, England and the international team selection Other Nationalities.

Sullivan participated in three tours of British national Australasia part (1924, 1928, 1932). In 1932 he became the first Welsh team captain selecting this to victories in all six internationals against Australia and New Zealand. However, on a participation in the Tour in 1936 he resigned for personal reasons.

He also played in the 1930 short term professional baseball.

From 1932 on, he was player-manager of Wigan. After retiring from active competition Sullivan remained until 1952 coach of the club, before moving to St Helens RLFC. In 1961 he returned as coach after Wigan to cease definitively, however, only a few months later for health reasons.

In 1988 he was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the English Rugby League Association (Rugby Football League).
