Jimmy Greenhoff

James " Jimmy" Green Hoff ( born June 19, 1946 in Barnsley, South Yorkshire ) is a former English footballer.

Sports career

Green Hoff began his career in 1961 in the youth of Leeds United. In 1963 he completed his first match of the first team of the club. By 1968, the club he managed to win the Fairs Cup, as one could beat Ferencvaros Budapest with a 1-0 home win and a 0-0 in Budapest. However, Green Hoff came only in the first leg as a substitute for use because it was changed in the summer, before the return match, for £ 70,000 to Birmingham City.

After only a year he left Birmingham City again, however, to join Stoke City for £ 100,000 transfer fee. There he was part of the team that against Chelsea won the League Cup in 1972. After 274 games in which get 76 hits, he went to Manchester United in November 1976, where already played his younger brother Brian. There he formed with Stuart Pearson in attack and in 1977 succeeded against Liverpool victory in the FA Cup. Especially his direct acceptances led to interesting gates and made ​​him one of the most popular players at United. In 1979 he was elected by the supporters of the club player of the year.

After a short trip to Crewe Alexandra in December 1980 Green Hoff moved in March 1981 to Toronto Blizzard in the NASL. In the summer he returned to England to join the FC Port Vale. In the spring of 1983 he went as a player-coach at Rochdale AFC, before he returned in 1984 as a coach to Port Vale.

The striker was indeed called several times to youth internationals in the junior national teams of England, but received no invitation to the senior team.
