Jimmy Iovine

Jimmy (James) Iovine ( born March 11, 1953 in Brooklyn, New York ) is an American music producer and entrepreneur.

In 1989, Iovine, the label Interscope Records, which was sold in 1991 to half of Warner Music Group. Iovine is since 1989 President of the label, and retained the position even after the merger of Interscope with Geffen Records and A & M Records to Interscope - Geffen -A & M under the umbrella of Universal Music Group. Iovine began his career in 1973 as an engineer in the New York music studio Record Plant. He had his 1978 song Because the Night boarding as a producer of the Patti Smith album Easter, in the top 40 his first commercial success. He worked as a producer and composer for U2 ( Rattle & Hum ), Tom Petty, The Wallflowers, Stevie Nicks, Dire Straits and more.

Iovine founded in 1992 along with Suge Knight and Dr. Dre focused on the gangsta rap sub-label Death Row Records and later with Dr. Dre Aftermath Entertainment. He is considered the discoverer of Eminem, whom he saw in a freestyle competition and a demo tape bat, which he forwarded them to Dr. Dre.
