Jindřichův Hradec District

Okres Jindřichův Hradec ( Neuhaus German district ) in South Bohemia, a part with 1944 km ² of the largest districts in the Czech Republic. The largest part lies in the Bohemian- Moravian Highlands. An exception is the Wittingauer Pan, a slightly hilly plain. Most important rivers are the Lainsitz and Naser. The climate is warm but wet due to large bodies of water.

In the district of about 93,000 residents living in 106 municipalities and 289 districts. In the 13 cities Jindřichův Hradec, Ceske Velenice Dačice, Deštná, Kardašova Řečice, Lomnice nad Lužnicí, Nová Bystřice, Nová Včelnice, Slavonice, Straz nad Nežárkou, Strmilov, Suchdol nad Lužnicí, Trebon lives about half of the population.

In the district there are 16,000 business people; with the focus on the manufacturing sector, the food and textile industry, wood processing, mechanical engineering and the manufacture of office supplies. Unemployment is at 5.6%.

Jindřichův Hradec is a university town. In the district are about 45 natural parks and nature reserves Mutenská obora and Krabonošská niva. The nature and the numerous monuments attract tourists. Every year the region about 140,000 people, including 64,000 foreigners. The average length of stay is 4.5 days.

The district is rich in natural resources. Funding gravel, sand and peat. Important supplier of raw materials are also the many forests that occupy 38% of the district. For the typical district are 2500 ponds from the 13th century with fish that occupy 6% of the district area.

In the district of many noble families had their seat, including the Lords of Hradec, the Rosenbergs, Slavata of Chlum and Košumberk, Czernin and others.
