Majdalena

Majdalena ( formerly Czech Svatá Mari Magdalena; German Santa Maria Magdalena ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic. It is located ten kilometers southeast of Trebon and belongs to Okres Jindřichův Hradec.

Geography

Majdalena is located on the territory of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Třeboňsko between the Lainsitz and the channel Zlata stoka in the plane of the Trebon Basin. To the northeast are several large fish ponds. The two- kilometers southeast weir located Pilař where the Golden channel attaches, especially water sports on the Lainsitz is a term. In overcoming Try the dangerous weir where over 30 people died so far. Below the dam the creek empties into the Koštěnický Lainsitz.

Neighboring towns are Lutová in the northeast, Chlum u Třeboně in the east, in the southeast Kosky, Suchdol nad Lužnicí in the south, Cep in the southwest, Herda and Barbora in the west and Holičky and Trebon in the northwest.

By Majdalena leads the railway from Trebon České Velenice that, on the southern end of the town railway station is named " Chlum u Třeboně ".

History

Was first documented the village 1397th

After the replacement of patrimonial Svatá Mari Magdalena formed a part of the community Herda. In 1897 founded the volunteer fire department Majdalena.
