Jinzū River

The Jinzu (Japanese神通 川, -gawa ) is a river that flows from Gifu Prefecture in the Toyama prefecture in Japan.

He is in Gifu also called Miyagawa (宫 川). It is 120 km long and has a catchment area of 2720 km ².

The source of the river lies on the mountain Kaore in Gifu, on the border of Gifu and Toyama it flows together with the Takahara. Then it flows in a straight line to the north and empties into the Toyama Bay in the Sea of ​​Japan.

Once flowed its course meanders through the city of Toyama, but was later moved west into a new bed of the city to avoid floods. The City Council of Toyama and other public buildings are on the former river bed.

The river has been polluted by mining until 1950 with cadmium, so that in the cities on the lower reaches occurred mass poisoning, which became known as Itai - Itai disease.

The Imperial Japanese Navy had a cruiser named Jintsū.
